Uncapped Fibre Service Launched by Telkom at an Affordable Price

On the Openserve network, Telkom has introduced Prepaid Compact Fibre, an uncapped service that costs R99 per week. Telkom’s own wholesale and infrastructure division is called Openserve. A portion of its network is accessible via Prepaid Compact Fibre.

For R199, customers in the coverage region can purchase a Prepaid Compact Fibre Beginning Kit that includes installation and access for 14 days. After that, Telkom offers 7-day recharge certificates for R99 a piece. Like most pre-paid fibre connections, Telkom’s Compact offering requires the installation of an optical network terminal that supports Wi-Fi. This is part of the installation package; users don’t need a separate Wi-Fi router. The service provides 10Mbps upload and 20Mbps download speeds.

However, it also provides a 200GB fair-use policy per coupon. Telkom throttles customers’ connections to 4Mbps if they exceed the 200GB barrier. Clients who do not recharge for ninety-nine days must purchase an R199 reactivation coupon, which grants access for seven days.

Makgosi Mabaso, head of business and home solutions at Telkom, stated, “We aim to provide affordable, value-added products and services in response to the economic challenges faced by our customers.”

The Prepaid Compact Fibre package enhances the Express Fibre service offered by Telkom.

Express Fibre is more expensive but faster because throttling or fair usage criteria do not constrain it. It has two beginning pack options (one with a router included for R499 and another where you provide your router for R399) and offers speeds of 40/20Mbps or 50/25Mbps. The beginning bundles for Telkom’s Express Fibre do not come with an access voucher. The user can purchase R110 for three days, R188 for seven days, or R549 for a month. Express Fibre does not require a reactivation voucher following 90 days without recharging, in contrast to Telkom Compact Fibre.

The main purpose of launching these packages at an affordable price is to provide high-quality services to customers despite economic challenges.
