Well-known convenience store in County Roscommon, McGuire’s Gala has been named Excellence in Retail at the 2024 Gala Annual Awards held at Lawlor’s of Naas, County Kildare. Jacqui Hurley, sports broadcaster, hosted the event celebrating the success of over 200 Gala stores throughout Ireland.

Gala Retail ambassadors Kenneth Moran and David Mayne awarded the prize to John and Francis McGuire at McGuire’s Gala, Roosky. The gala excellence awards recognize excellence in over 1,000 gala stores by an impartial assessment that will be held on the grounds of quality and service. The occasion marked a notable show of community spirit and excellent retailing through the Gala Group.

At the awards dinner, Gary Desmond, chief executive of Gala Retail, praised the winning stores: “This year’s Gala Excellence Awards perfectly reflect the dedication and commitment of our retailers toward their communities. And during this 25th year of the Gala Excellence Awards, it is a poignant moment to honor the outstanding efforts of our Gala stores across the country who continue to go that extra mile in delivering quality service to customers.”.

Desmond added that the awards not only indicate recognition of the very high standards maintained by these stores but also underline the journey undertaken by Gala Retail over its first 25 years. He expressed extreme pride in the development of the network to over 200 stores throughout Ireland and wished all Gala retailers every success in the coming year.

It was also a salutary reminder that community-focused retail and the sense of expertise available from local stores are extremely important elements, and the Gala Group’s commitment to standards and excellence in the industry was further enhanced.
